Worship at Grace

How We Worship

 

When we gather for worship on Sunday morning, we enter a holy dialogue with God. He calls us to worship through his Word (the Bible) and we respond with praise and prayer. He reveals his holy character and we respond with confession. He reminds us of our forgiveness through the promise of the gospel and we respond with thanksgiving. We affirm our common faith and join in a time of praise and intercession. God speaks to us through the sermon and we again respond with praise and commitment. Finally, God sends us out as his disciples with a blessing called the benediction.

 

In short, the worship service is a retelling of the gospel. The four stages in God's salvation story - creation, fall, redemption, and restoration - are subtly woven into the order of worship each Sunday morning at Grace Church.

The elements of worship at Grace include songs and hymns, corporate readings from the Bible, the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper, creeds and confessions from church history, prayer and praise, expository preaching, and community.

 

The Sacraments

Baptism

Baptism is a sacrament instituted by Jesus wherein the sign of the Covenant is applied with water (by sprinkling or pouring) to believers and their children. It is the New Testament replacement of the Old Testament sign of circumcision. It is God reminding believers that he is their God and they are his people. It is a picture of the work of the Holy Spirit in regeneration. Of course, the water of baptism does not save. Personal trust in the person and work of Christ and repentance from sin are required for a person to enter the family of God.

The Lord's Supper

The Lord’s Supper is a sacrament instituted by Christ that shows us visually the work he did for his people on the cross. The bread and wine (or grape juice) are not the actual body and blood of Christ, but are signs and seals of his covenant promises. They are means of grace in that believers receive spiritual nourishment and the assurance of God's love through properly receiving the elements of communion. The Lord's Supper also points forward to the return of Christ at the end of the age.

At Grace Church, any believer in good standing of a Bible-believing church may come to the Lord's Table. We celebrate the Lord's Supper each Sunday.

Worship Music

 

Music is a wonderful gift given to the church by the Lord. It speaks to the mind, heart, soul and body. We sing songs and hymns that are theologically sound and rich. We encourage the use of different musical instruments. If you like to sing, consider joining our choir!
